Winter Skincare Routine for India: Keep Skin Soft Through Dry Months
Élan Vivre Skin TeamShare
From November to February, much of India gets drier – especially in the north. Low humidity, cold winds, room heaters and long hot showers all pull water out of the skin. The result: tightness, flakes, dullness and makeup that won't sit well. A few small swaps keep skin soft and glowing all season.
Signs your skin needs a winter routine
- Skin feels tight within minutes of washing
- Dry patches around the nose, mouth or cheeks
- Dull, rough texture
- Products that never stung before now feel uncomfortable
The winter routine
1. Cleanse gently
Switch to a cream or low-foam cleanser and use lukewarm – not hot – water. Hot water strips the oils that keep skin comfortable.
2. Hydrate on damp skin
Hyaluronic acid draws water into the skin's surface. Apply it on slightly damp skin and seal it in straight away. Read our hyaluronic acid guide for the details.
3. Moisturise with a richer texture
Look for ceramides, glycerin, shea or squalane. If you have oily skin, a gel-cream is usually enough even in winter.
4. Keep wearing sunscreen
Winter sun is softer but UVA rays still cause pigmentation. Keep using SPF 30+ every morning (our sunscreen guide).
5. Repair overnight
Night is when skin recovers. A hydrating night serum like Overnight Renewal – with Hyaluronic Acid, Chamomile and Bakuchiol – helps skin feel comfortable, soft and smoother by morning.
Should you still use Vitamin C and retinol in winter?
Yes – just be gentler. Keep Vitamin C in the morning, and if you use retinol, apply it 2–3 nights a week with moisturiser on top. If skin feels irritated, pause actives for a few days and focus on hydration.
Small habits that make a big difference
- Run a humidifier or keep a bowl of water near the heater
- Drink water and include healthy fats in your diet
- Use a lip balm with SPF in the day and a thick balm at night
- Exfoliate gently once a week – never scrub flaky skin hard
