Skincare Routine for Beginners: A Simple 4-Step Plan
Élan Vivre Skin TeamShare
Skincare doesn't need ten steps. A simple routine you follow every day beats an elaborate one you abandon after a week. Here is the easiest way to start.
The 4 essential steps
1. Cleanse
A gentle cleanser morning and night removes oil, sweat, sunscreen and pollution without stripping skin. Gel for oily skin, cream for dry skin.
2. Treat (serum)
Serums target a specific concern. Start with just one:
- Dullness or dark spots: Vitamin C + niacinamide in the morning – e.g. Radiance Booster
- Dryness or sensitivity: a hydrating hyaluronic acid serum at night – e.g. Overnight Renewal
- Fine lines or texture: retinol or bakuchiol at night, after a few weeks of a basic routine – e.g. Eternal Glow
3. Moisturise
Every skin type needs it, including oily skin. It seals in hydration and supports the skin barrier.
4. Protect (mornings)
Broad-spectrum SPF 30+ PA+++ every day, rain or shine. Read our sunscreen guide for how much to use.
Your starter routine
Morning: cleanse → serum → moisturiser → sunscreen
Night: cleanse → serum → moisturiser
Golden rules for beginners
- Introduce one new product at a time, two weeks apart
- Patch test new products on your jawline for 2–3 days
- Give a routine at least 4–6 weeks before judging results
- More product isn't better – 2–3 drops of serum is enough for the whole face
